Using art as the medium to study living presence.
This is a selection of the audio results from an interactive installation, 'knot and trre', that I presented at Nuit Blanche North in Huntsville, Ontario and Electric Eclectics in Meaford, Ontario during the summer of 2018. The dates and times indicated by the track names are when the recordings were made. By recording I mean, when participants, attendees at each of the festivals - the public, interacted with the installation and I recorded the results using the software I have written that controls this installation. There were many recordings made at these two events and I have selected a number of them as examples of the playback ('samples playback') - this is what people heard as the software recorded their actions. There are also a number of other recordings; knot, tree, sensors, rgb, vertices, edges, tree playback. These are the audio playback of processes that I apply to the recorded data - visualizations and sonifications. This is part of what I do to analyze the material as the purpose of this installation is to study living presence - consciousness. I have chosen two different recordings, 2018,08,05 - 10:23pm and 2019,02,11 - 12:37pm, to compare the results. This hardly serves as any kind of comprehensive analysis but is enough to illustrate how different recordings produce different results. Part of the work that I intend to do in the future is to accumulate enough of these recordings that a feasible basis for analysis will be formed.
The final piece, 'composition 1' is a mix of the playback of all of the modes together. It is an animated artwork that serves as an artistic statement summarizing the activity that produced all of the material; the people responding to the theme ('trees') at events through the installation, the source audio composition that I created, the sounds and images populating the triangle mesh, and the different forms of analysis - all mixed together to generate a composition.
All of the tracks presented in this album are the audio to computer animations.

Thanks for listening! This project is continually evolving. I will be presenting the next iteration this summer (2019) at Nuit Blanche North and Electric Eclectics. I am expanding the software, especially the interactive part, to create a synthesizer/sequencer and I will also be adding new forms of analysis.
