This is audio that accompanies videos that are recordings of interactions with online software. See this page on my website: robgillthings.net/hpbehb/. The audio was generated through a combination of algorithmic composition and human gesture (literally the pressing of one key on the keyboard) using software I wrote in SuperCollider. Initially, field recordings were captured at the locations in High Park, Toronto, Ontario, that you see in the images that form the environment maps that the objects reflect. I then 'performed' using my software to generate a response to the environment recordings. There are three levels of density, sparse to saturated. The arrangement of events as a somewhat arbitrary 'roughly even scattering' is applied throughout this project and can be heard in the way the note events have been arranged in these recordings. It is crucial that these events are triggered by a physical gesture (the pressing of a button) as it is the living presence in human activity - the creative impulse that is communicated through every gesture - that I seek to record, analyze, and transform through the system that I have developed in this project. It is through mundane action that living presence is most able to be expressed without the distortions that intention asserts.
